HAMILTON CHILDREN’S GARDEN
GROUND BREAKING
COME GROW WITH US!

HAMILTON CHLDREN’S GARDEN BREAKS GROUND

On June 28, 2008 Quail Botanical Gardens dedicated and broke ground on the new one-acre interactive Hamilton Children’s Garden, named in appreciation of the generous gift from Frances Hamilton White. The event kicked off with a Native American Ground Blessing, the American Flag ceremony by Boy Scout Troop 777 and speeches given by Julian Duval, president and CEO of the Gardens, Encinitas Mayor Jerome Stocks, Campaign Co-Chair Tyler Miller and Operations Chair Randi Coopersmith.

Afternoon events included activities for children and families such as musical entertainment, a plant potting station, self-guided tours and a chance to have a copy of the book “The Panda Who Would Not Eat” signed by the author Ruth Todd Evans. Set to open to the public in the summer of 2009, the first phase of the 4.5-acre expansion will include the Mediterranean Garden and the new Hamilton Children’s Garden, which will be the largest Children’s Garden on the West Coast.

Julian Duval, president and CEO of Quail Botanical Gardens, explained, “The success of our existing children’s garden, Seeds of Wonder, clearly demonstrates that there is a true need in our community for children to explore the wonders of nature.”
