Please join us at the Tenth Anniversary Gala in the Gardens fundraiser on Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 5:00 to 10:00 pm. The honored guest is Huell Howser, creator and host of the beloved television show, California’s Gold. Tickets are $175 per person. Sponsorship opportunities are available by calling (760) 436-3036 x.218.
Building on the successes of years past, the Tenth Anniversary Gala will celebrate the many monumental achievements at the Gardens, the tremendous community support and the promise of a more sustainable future – all while enjoying beverages and sumptuous cuisine, a variety of musical entertainment, and good company in a delightful natural setting.
For this one evening the Gardens are brilliantly transformed into several uniquely themed garden parties that leave guests with a true sense of wonder. Creatively, San Diego’s most talented floral designers arrange stunning spaces with colorful elegance, gorgeous blossoms and unexpected whimsy, while more than 20 of San Diego’s most talked about restaurants serve guests their “best dish on the menu.” Back by popular demand – dancing and dessert after the program! Additionally, the event will forgo the live auction, with the silent auction still playing a major role of entertainment and charity.
As the honored guest, Huell Howser will receive the Paul Ecke, Jr. Award of Excellence during the Gala. After moving to Los Angeles in 1981, Howser instantly fell in love…with California. His enthusiasm for his new home was the inspiration for his hit television series, California’s Gold, where he travels the state with an open heart and an open mind, a microphone and a camera, to uncover a treasure of California stories. Huell visited Quail Botanical Gardens in 2005 and toured the Gardens on-camera with Julian Duval, President and CEO.
Chairing the 10th Anniversary Gala in the Gardens is Jim Ruecker, Executive Director of Property Management for Barona Resort and Casino. Ruecker has been enjoying the beauty of Quail Botanical Gardens for over 30 years and believes, “what we do today will ensure future generations’ enjoyment of nature in an urban setting.” He goes on to say, “The Gardens are a living museum with each generation making a contribution and building upon San Diego’s heritage.”
All proceeds from this year's Gala in the Gardens will contribute directly to the growth of the Gardens and fund essential projects. Contributions will fund the Garden's special blend of programs and exhibits, including the new Hamilton Children's Garden to open June 13, 2009.
